Try Jesus? And Pastors Shoving Rick Warren Down My Throat.

Many of you know about how how I feel about Rick “Gospel Light, Mr. Purpose Trade Mark” Warren. I just wonder how the pastors that shoved him down my throat feel about him now. They have had to heard about all his flip flops on issues, like this one.

“During the whole Proposition 8 thing, I never once went to a meeting, never once issued a statement, never — never once even gave an endorsement in the two years Prop. 8 was going,” Warren told the CNN audience on Monday. “The week before the — the vote, somebody in my church said, ‘Pastor Rick, what — what do you think about this?’ And I sent a note to my own members that said, I actually believe that marriage is — really should be defined, that that definition should be — say between a man and a woman.”
And yet, just a few weeks before the election, Warren said the following to his church:”The election’s coming just in a couple of weeks, and I hope you’re praying about your vote. One of the propositions, of course, that I want to mention is Proposition 8, which is the proposition that had to be instituted because the courts threw out the will of the people. And a court of four guys actually voted to change a definition of marriage that has been going for 5,000 years. Now let me say this really clearly: we support Proposition 8 — and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8. I never support a candidate, but on moral issues I come out very clear.”

HE  LIED. So to former church leaders – What do you think of your boy now. I bet one of you still follow him so close that if he were to stop short you would go in up to your shoulders.
And back when I was at my former church, when I was trying to make sense of why the leadership of my church, that I a placed my family and I under their care, was doing the 40 Days of Purpose. Tried to get in to talk to our senior Pastor about but blown off. I hounded one of our associate pastors to meet with me at anytime to talk about it. He said “How about midnight?” I said no problem. Boy he was shocked.
It was not a pretty meeting, he came into it with much anger. (He later on got his own church. He went right on to preach a Easter sermon that was all video of him contemplating on how he got there and songs that helped him. Jesus and the resurrection got a whole 10 minutes.) During that meeting he told me how smart and sound Rick Warren was in his theology and I asked him “What about the lack of a proper Gospel Message in the PDL book?” He could not answer that and said something about that not being the main “purpose” of the book. At this point point I started thinking he should have stayed in pharmaceutical business. Oh and he will mention his past greatness of his job in about every sermon.
To him, well all of them, I leave this little tid bit from Rick Warren.

Over on Just After Sunrise, Stan has posted excerpts from  an interview that influential pastor Rick Warren had with Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes on Fox News:

COLMES: What about — what does it say for all those people who do not accept Christ as their personal savior?

WARREN: I’m saying that this (Christmas) is the perfect time to open their life, to give it a chance. I’d say give him a 60-day trial.

COLMES: Like the Book of the Month Club.

WARREN: Give him a trial. See if he’ll change your life. I dare you to try trusting Jesus for 60 days. Or your money guaranteed back.  (Read the transcript…)

  1. Good grief!! Just when I think that guy can’t say anything else that will shock me… O_O

Ran into one of our former pastors today at lunch. I decided to go check out his “church’s” website this afternoon. Among other things, they dropped the “Baptist” from their name, lest they offend. And in their mission statement it says something like they “worship with passion and without judgement” and they are setting out to “win the unchurched at any cost”.

I might add that Jesus is no where in the mission statement. I know they are way off base but I was surprised.

    • If you don’t mind message me the church name. I hope it is not the one I think it is.
